Swansea Deaf Centre

Scope

Demolition and Full Build of New Timber Frame Extension

Client

The Big Lottery Fund

Treharne Homes was proud to deliver the full demolition and construction of a major new extension at the Swansea Centre for Deaf People, located at 57a Neath Road.

Funded by the Big Lottery Fund, this transformative project has expanded the Centre’s capacity to support and serve the local Deaf and hard of hearing community. Despite the challenging site access and restricted working space, our team successfully managed the entire build process—from demolition through to final handover. The new two-storey timber frame extension was delivered with precision and care, making full use of our off-site manufacturing expertise to minimise disruption and improve efficiency.

The completed extension includes:

• Two modern classrooms
• Accessible WC and shower facilities across both floors
• A dedicated training room
• An industrial-grade kitchen
• A vibrant cafeteria with both indoor and outdoor seating

Designed with inclusivity and accessibility at its heart, the facility now supports a broad range of activities, including accredited training in three levels of British Sign Language. The building is not only a functional space, but a warm, welcoming community hub for social connection, learning, and support.

This project stands as a testament to Treharne Homes’ ability to deliver complex, community focused builds, combining sustainable timber frame construction with outstanding craftsmanship—even on the most demanding sites.
